BugScan AI Privacy Policy

Effective: October 5, 2026

Summary. BugScan AI does not require an account. Photos and optional location are used to identify insects, spiders and other terrestrial arthropods. We also use limited analytics, crash reporting and advertising services to operate and improve the app.

Information used for a scan

When you choose or take a photo, the image is sent securely to the BugScan AI service and to Google Gemini for visual identification. If you choose to share location, latitude, longitude and the current month may be used to improve geographic relevance. Location is optional. BugScan AI does not use scans to diagnose bites, stings or medical conditions.

Local and server storage

The BugScan AI backend processes scan images in memory and does not intentionally save the uploaded image or coordinates in its application database. A copy of the selected image may be stored locally on your device when it is saved to My Bugs.

Analytics and diagnostics

We may collect app events such as app opens, scan starts and completions, result views, rewarded-ad events, app version, platform, an anonymous session identifier. We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics for product analytics and crash diagnostics. Our own service also records aggregate scan usage such as model token counts and estimated processing cost. Telemetry does not intentionally include scan photos, exact coordinates, email addresses or account information.

Advertising

BugScan AI may offer optional rewarded ads through Google AdMob. You receive bonus scans only after the ad provider reports that the reward was earned. Where required, Google User Messaging Platform is used for consent and privacy choices. The app currently requests non-personalized ads for rewarded placements.

Third-party processing

Services used by BugScan AI may include Google Gemini, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform. Their processing is governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies.

Data retention and control

My Bugs history is stored locally on your device and can be cleared in BugScan AI Settings or removed by deleting the app. Server-side operational logs and aggregate analytics may be retained for security, reliability, fraud prevention and product measurement according to operational needs. You can decline location access and can review advertising privacy choices from within the app when the option is required.

Children

BugScan AI is a general-audience identification tool and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Production API traffic uses HTTPS. No system can guarantee absolute security, but we limit the information collected and avoid requiring an account in version 1.

Feedback

Sending feedback is optional. If you send feedback, BugScan AI stores the message you enter together with the app version, platform, selected app language and submission time so we can improve the product and investigate issues. Feedback is not tied to a required user account. Please do not include medical information or other sensitive personal data.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
